If you’ve moved your furniture and find indentations in the carpet where the furniture, just hold a steam iron over the depression and apply steam. Don’t press the iron onto the carpet itself; just steam heavily and then rake at the carpet fibres with your fingers. You might have to do this several times to remove an old dent.
If it’s not a crime scene, you want to get started on blood stains as quickly as you can! Blot the stain as much as you can with a white paper towel, then squirt dishwashing liquid into a litre of water and dab at the stain until it’s gone. Keep dabbing until all residue is gone, trying not to make the area too wet. Rinse out the detergent with fresh water to prevent resoiling.
Again, speed is of the essence here. Don’t waste white wine by pouring it onto red wine spills; soak up the spilled wine with a clean towel, then cover in salt and once that’s absorbed the wine, vacuum it up. Then sprinkle with a bit of bicarb and some white vinegar, dab until stain is gone, then vacuum again.
If your faithful pooch couldn’t wait until you got home, follow these steps: pick up anything solid, then dab with paper towel until dry. Add bicarb and a bit of white vinegar, dab with a cloth, leave to dry and vacuum. Repeat until area is clean and all smells have gone. Also – house train your dog!
A soft cloth with mineral spirits should remove most scuff marks. Test it in some out of the way spot (like under the fridge) first to make sure the spirits won’t discolour your flooring.
